Week 9: Space + Art

Space and Art are an interesting concept to think about. We can find art in everything, personally, i think there is artistic beauty in the structure of planets and just looking at the stars in the sky that create beautiful constellations.

I always think its fascinating to see how religion and science overlap. In Lecture Part 1, we dive in to Copernicus and note his relation with science and art. He published a heliocentric model of the solar system which challenged the church's ideals. In fear of getting in trouble he delayed releasing this model. The model suggested that the Sun was in the middle of the solar system and further obstructed ideas of the church. This was absolutely inconceivable to most, but the diagrams were so clear and unarguable that it caused people to question their beliefs.

Additionally, I humored by the comparison of space exploration and famous television shows/movies. The way modern television depicts space exploration is comical but also inviting. I feel as though it sparks curiosity for what lies beyond the comfort of our planet. There is so much yet to be discovered and known. Movies like Star Wars, Star Trek and The Jensen's have cultivated a community of science through artistic cinema.
